This Wednesday, April 28, at 1:30pm, I will join Doxa Financial at the Avalon Tea Room in White Bear Lake, Minnesota to talk about the book. I am excited to meet the Doxa team as well as some of their clients and colleagues. If you are in the area, and you would like to attend, please email me (they need a head count). There is no fee to attend. It is a great opportunity to meet in a casual setting if you have not been able to attend previous events. Details are in the Events tab. Peace…

the gift of relief after a death…

Recently, customers have been telling me that Begin Here is a really good gift for someone who has just had a death in the family. Personally, giving and receiving flowers never suited me, unless they are picked by the giver from their garden (or in my case, as a child, I would take them from neighbors-I was YOUNG and I am sure I later apologized!) My mom was a florist and I love flowers; however, my typical gift – if flowers were the appropriate response – would usually be a plant or something that would last longer. I have been getting many orders from customers who are ordering several books at a time. They are telling me they are giving them as gifts.

There may be a situation where you may want to express your condolences, but maybe an $80 bouquet of flowers is not in your budget, or it seems impersonal or simply inappropriate to you. If you have a friend, colleague, employee, employer, relative or neighbor that you want to help and express your condolences, this book would be an exceptional way to do so. I continue to hear “I gave your book to my friend, she was so thankful; and now, my neighbor’s mom just died, so I ordered another” something to think about the next time you find out someone in your life is struggling with a loss. There will be a plethora of flowers and plants for the survivor after the funeral, usually too many to keep; the book would give them actual, tangible help that they need during an extremely difficult and numbing time in their life. Peace…

It is an honor to have been mentioned in the April 1, 2010 issue of the Memorial Business Journal in The Notebook section. They wrote a nice article about the book being a Finalist in the 2009 Midwest Book Awards. Very exciting! “Memorial Business Journal is a weekly, independent publication, which was founded in 2009 by Edward J. Defort, a national and international award winning journalist, who has covered the death care profession since 1996. The mission of this publication is to provide independent, comprehensive news and analysis to all providers and suppliers of goods and services to the death care profession.” Thank you, MBJ, your nod to the book is appreciated! Peace…

It is sincerely an honor to be in the running in the Social Science (psychology, family, self-help) category for the 20th Annual Book Awards covering a 12-state region. The results will be announced on May 12 at an awards dinner. This is really exciting to me and I hope the exposure gives more opportunities to help more people with this daunting task that the book makes less daunting. Peace…
